New International Airport of L. Terme – Concept Design
The architecture of the new airport includes two different structures. A two-floor inner shell encompassing all the functions of a modern airport, where space is divided by exposed load-bearing panels. The large crystal walls rhythmically mark off the perimeter of the airport and at the same time are the transparent and sensible ‘skin’ of the whole building. A second brise-soleil structure wraps the inner shell; this external structure is fundamental from a bioclimatic point of view and it confers a soft and rarefied shape that hints at nature. The predominant color of the external structure is white. This color shelters the airport from the intense heat of solar beams and improves its energy consumption in hotter periods, it also enhances light and confers a modern and Mediterranean style to the whole structure. INTERIORS The interior part complies with the best design techniques and the idea is to create immediate impact with a unique and recognizable identity. Materials and colors have been selected to help travelers in the airport experience positive and unforgettable feelings.
